Most couples still choose to abide by the classic cake while pies, cupcakes, and dessert spreads have recently made a presence at wedding receptions all over the country. But keeping with tradition does not have to be boring— at least according to these sweet confections. Into one, our fantastic cake set brings the best of our print issues from seasonal motifs to surprising shapes . Delightful creations worthy of our pages that are shiny, ahead, complete with the colors, flavors, and frostings of your dreams. Plus, find tips on the best way to have (or make) an indistinguishable cake of your very own.

RED, WHITE, AND BLUE WEDDING CAKE

This Lafayette Grand Cafe & Bakery fromage blanc cheesecake has six layers of berry-adorned good. The layers are flavored with black pepper, lemon zest, and vanilla bean, and sit atop an organic cornmeal crust.

JAPANESE SPONGE WEDDING CAKE

The filling is lemon-ginger mousse, and also the designs can be customized (wedding crest or monogram, anyone?).

ROSE-PIPED WEDDING CAKE

This happy rose confection may seem couture, but just about anyone is capable of recreating it. Begin with a basic fondant cake from a bakery. Print out our template of roses that are intangible, place parchment paper over it, and trace using a piping bag of royal icing. Once dry, peel the paper in the roses that are piped, and stick the layouts to the cake using glue paste that's been combined with water that is hot.

FRENCH AND IKAT SILK RIBBON WEDDING CAKE

The spirit of a century-old French silk ribbon might be felt in every bite of this dear cake. On top rests a remarkable bow of molded glue paste (so realistic, you will be tempted to untie it). Then we painted luster dust that was edible combined with lemon extract onto the fondant in a rose design that evokes the blurry quality of an ikat weave.

CRUSHED-SWEET WEDDING CAKE

As fun as it is to eat, to make, our sparkling marmalade-candies cake has a small muscle—and that's about it. Then press on the pieces that are crushed that are glittering to the sides of a buttercream cake.

HEART WEDDING CAKE

Long ago, the heart was considered to be the origin of most human emotions. Though modern science shows otherwise, the phrase "giving your heart" is still the best measure to express that you'd sacrifice anything for the one you love. Jay Qualls of the Tennessee-based Maples Wedding Cakes printed our designs on paper, covered them in parchment, outlined them then transferred them.

CHOCOLATE STOUT WEDDING CAKE

Each layer of this chocolate naked cake by Wendy Kromer- Caitlin Brown and Schell topped with candied pecans, drizzled with caramel and chocolate ganache, and is full of buttercream. Meanwhile, the actual cake features butter, yogurt, and stout (customize yours with your preferred brew), making each bite decadently moist.

MINI CHOCOLATE-COVERED WEDDING CAKES

Fancy: Yes. Fussy: Not in the least. To make these miniature chocolate-covered desserts, we poured a glaze over each cake and piped on lines—and, in the instance of the cake in the centre, circles—of melted white chocolate. (Perch the cakes on a wire stand so excess glaze does not pool.) Afterward we lightly dragged a toothpick through the lines to create the designs.

ART DECO WEDDING CAKE

The layouts on this particular cake hark back to another time—when sandals were music was for dancing, and jewelry took a leap to the near future. Nevertheless, you don't need to understand your Art Deco from your Art Nouveau to admire its geometric style. Covered in piped dots of frosting, buttercream, and cut-fondant plaques coated with sanding sugar, it's just plain pretty, irrespective of what way you slice it.

OMBRE WEDDING CAKE

Wendy Kromer- Caitlin Brown hid blood-orange and Schell and passion-fruit curds in tinted vanilla poundcake because of this buttercream-dotted confection. Bake yours a bit larger than desired so that browned edges might be trimmed off, revealing the lively ombre layout underneath.
